Overview

Ubuntu Touch on BraX3

Ubuntu Touch is a Linux based mobile operating system maintained by the UBports community. It brings a convergent Ubuntu experience to phones and tablets, with a focus on privacy, openness, and long term maintainability. This page gives you a high level overview of what Ubuntu Touch looks like on BraX3.

Pillars

  • Open source and community driven - the full stack is open, from the OS to most core apps, and development is coordinated in public through the UBports community and partners.
  • Privacy by default - there are no Google Play Services, no built in advertising or analytics frameworks, and system permissions are explicit and revocable.
  • Convergence and longevity - the same code base powers phones, tablets, and desktops, and the project aims to keep devices useful for many years.

Key features

  • Ubuntu base - a full Ubuntu userland with an LTS base, system packages, and security updates maintained by UBports.
  • AppArmor confinement - apps are isolated by default using AppArmor and an explicit permission model that controls access to sensors, files, network and hardware.
  • OpenStore apps - graphical applications are installed from the OpenStore, a community run app store focused on free and open software and privacy friendly apps.
  • Convergence mode - when connected to an external display and keyboard, many apps can adapt into a desktop like interface so you can work on a bigger screen.
  • No Google services required - push notifications, maps, and other services rely on community or self hosted backends instead of Google Play Services.

Governance

Ubuntu Touch is developed and maintained by the UBports Foundation and its community contributors. Brax Technologies collaborates with UBports and other partners to bring Ubuntu Touch to BraX3.

  • Community led roadmaps and public discussion channels guide new features and device support.
  • Code is hosted on public Git hosting and changes are reviewed openly.
  • Brax focuses on making sure the BraX3 hardware integration, testing, and documentation meet the expectations of privacy focused users.
