Overview
Privacy first Android
iodΓ©OS is a privacy focused Android distribution built on the Android Open Source Project and powered by LineageOS. It removes proprietary Google services and common trackers to reduce background data collection and give you control over what leaves your device.
Pillars¶
- Privacy by design - core Google components and trackers are removed or replaced with privacy respecting alternatives.
- Security in practice - regular releases include Android security patches and upstream fixes.
- Sustainability - a lightweight system that extends device lifespan, improves performance and conserves battery.
Key features¶
- De-Googled Android base built on AOSP with LineageOS underpinnings - proprietary Google services are not preinstalled.
- Network and tracker protection - the preinstalled iodΓ© app acts like a firewall, and system-level filtering can block trackers, ads, telemetry, and unwanted hosts via traffic and DNS controls.
- Optional MicroG compatibility layer - for apps that expect Google Play Services, MicroG can be enabled; you can also turn it off completely if you do not need it.
- Curated and transparent by default - minimal, mostly open source apps are selected for privacy and can be removed, and development focuses on auditable components and community improvements.
Governance¶
iodΓ©OS is developed by iodΓ© Technologies, a France-based company founded in 2021.
- Led by its founders Antoine (CEO) and Vincent (Lead developer)
- Community-driven input, with feedback and polls shaping priorities, and public code contributions extending device support.
- Independent operation - iodΓ© is not VC-owned and is guided by its community.
