Overview

While a manager is responsible for their team's career management, a Tech Lead serves as the operational leader of a department. This position is assigned to a subject matter expert who has mastered the department's processes and tools.

Tech Leads are responsible for: - Managing the department's standard operating procedures - Ensuring cross-department processes are well-documented and understood across the organization - Leading technological direction and excellence within their domain

Core Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

Tech Leads provide strategic direction and expertise: - Provide expert opinions and guidance on technical processes - Transfer Brax knowledge and department-specific expertise through tech sessions - Champion best practices and technical standards

Process Improvement

Tech Leads focus on continuous operational enhancement: - Resource Allocation: Distribute team capacity effectively - Process Optimization: Identify and address inefficiencies - Documentation: Establish SOPs, best practices, and playbooks - Tooling: Provide and maintain necessary technical tools - Knowledge Management: - Maintain documentation in the department's Confluence space - Ensure the department's Knowledge Hub is accurate and current - Project Management: - Delegate tasks within Process Improvement projects in Jira - Track and manage task completion - Crisis Management: Handle urgent technical issues ("firefighting")

Ideal candidates for Tech Lead positions include: - Individual Contributors at Level 3 and above - Managers at Level 1 or Level 2, Steps 1-2

Note: Managers at Level 2, Step 3 and above should have already developed another team member to assume the Tech Lead role, allowing them to transition away from the Tech Lead position themselves.
